'It's like they never miss a pass': Swansea's Ethan Galbraith continues contest with Manchester City.

Ethan Galbraith can't help but smile as he recalls the dramatic final moments of his team's stunning fightback victory against Nottingham Forest in the Carabao Cup. The encounter wrapped up with Galbraith picking up a spectator's eyewear after the pitch-side pile-on.

During the final moments of stoppage time, Galbraith cracked the upright with a speculative shot from distance, and his teammate immediately slammed home the deflection before charging toward the home end to celebrate, with supporters mobbing the players.

Remarkable Recovery

The victory completed an extraordinary comeback given Swansea had found themselves down 2-0 midway through the latter period. During the celebrations, there was some minor mishaps. Galbraith explained, "There was a fan trying to get our attention and Josh Key and I were wondering: 'What's he on about here?' Then we noticed the glasses. It was a light-hearted moment putting them on. We are on the pitch as footballers but we're humans, too, so to have a bit of craic with the fans is always good."

Manchester City Challenge

The victory secured a upcoming game at home against Pep Guardiola's side on Wednesday, a team Galbraith came close against at the comparable phase of the FA Cup with Leyton Orient in February. Galbraith had an excellent perspective when the underdogs took the lead in remarkable manner, with the attacker's long-range effort from about way out going in via the bar and the opposition keeper. It seems unfair that it was credited as an own goal.

"You would have hoped they would've awarded it to him for having a go from that range," commented Galbraith, who started in midfield before switching to right defensive wing after they changed formation. That meant facing off against Jack Grealish, with whom he swapped shirts, and the winger was among the City players who paid tribute to the way the underdogs attacked the game.

City's Quality

"Physically they are exceptional but even the simple things and basic skills, they can just execute repeatedly," the midfielder notes. "It feels like they never miss a pass and they know how to control and slow down a game. You can feel you're holding your own and then abruptly they will just deliver a through ball between defenders without you even spotting it. You have to be focused at all times of the game. It requires a strong mentality and concentration just to stay in the game."

Swansea Move

The Welsh side pushed to sign Galbraith in January and beat off competition to sign him in the summer in a seven-figure transfer. He made a name as a crowd pleaser across a couple of years at Orient and has rapidly replicated that in Wales. At Orient he joined forces once more with his former manager, who earlier gave Galbraith his first extended run in senior football on loan at his loan club from Manchester United. Then came a temporary move at fourth-tier the Manchester club, before he moved on from Manchester United.

Learning Curve

"I was perhaps a slightly green going into professional soccer. I think many athletes would say youth team games is entirely separate. Sometimes it seems play is circulated without real physicality. There's not many hard challenges. Once you start playing men's games you have to learn quickly."

National Team Success

He has demonstrated that development for both domestically and internationally, shining for Northern Ireland, who are fighting to qualify for the international competition next summer via the knockout phase and for whom he has started the past five games, including home and away games against Germany. His former international manager, Galbraith's previous international manager, offered the ultimate compliment, saying he was Northern Ireland's "midfield general" given how he controls possession and his ability to spot a decisive through ball.

Starting Out

This represents quite the ride for the player from the neighborhood in his hometown, just outside the capital, who grew up watching his father, Stuart, also a midfielder, play for Ballyclare Comrades.

Manchester United Experience

His sole appearance for United came in Central Asia in 2019, a continental tournament trip to Astana, where they competed on an plastic turf and the arena covering was shut owing to the weather of -15C. "It was a lengthy journey and it was freezing," he recalls, chuckling. "The days leading up, several youth players and I trained together, so that assisted our preparation. Just to join the main group and get a couple of minutes at the end was unbelievable."

Moving On

How difficult was it to leave United, the club he joined from Linfield aged his mid-teens? "The decision proved fairly simple, because I arrived at the moment where I understood I wasn't going to make it at the top level. I'm hugely grateful for the experience gained but it became apparent where I thought I had to take a different path, move to a lower level and play professional soccer. Now I'm gradually working my way back up."

Life in Swansea

This occurs during mid-afternoon at the team's practice facility but Galbraith has a commitment at 5pm: a learner's exam, another progress toward getting on the road. Prior to relocating to his new neighborhood, the 24-year-old was a constant rider in Swansea's so-called player transport, a minibus driven by club employees, the transport team, which shuttles players to and from training and matches.

"I travel with Gonçalo Franco, another squad member, the midfielder – the Swedish defender used to be in it but has begun using his own car. It's nice to interact with the lads but I'm hoping to be the subsequent individual to drive independently and driving. The Portuguese player likes to pull a few pranks; he's constantly causing mischief."

Public Engagement

When he represented Orient, Galbraith would travel alongside followers on the Tube after beginning his trip at Brentwood. "I tried|I attempted|My aim
